Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler endorsed President Donald Trump for reelection Wednesday in a short post on social media.
Golfing legend Jack Nicklaus endorsed Trump in a statement posted to Twitter on Wednesday, and shortly after, Cutler posted Nicklaus’ statement to Instagram with the caption, “Never a doubt.” Cutler had also supported Trump over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Cutler spent 12 years playing quarterback in the NFL, with eight of those for the Chicago Bears where he saw the most success in his up-and-down career. Cutler graduated from Vanderbilt University 2005 after setting career records for total offense (9,953 yds.), passing yards (8,697), pass attempts (1,242), touchdown passes (59), pass completions (710) and combined touchdowns (76). He was inducted into the Commodores’ Hall of Fame in 2016.
In the statement Cutler reposted, Nicklaus, 80, praised the president for delivering on campaign promises and said that Trump is the most “diverse” president of the golfing legend’s lifetime.
“I have had the privilege over the last 3½ years to get to know our current President a little more as his term has progressed,” Nicklaus said. “I have been very disappointed at what he’s had to put up with from many directions, but with that, I have seen a resolve and a determination to do the right thing for our country. He has delivered on his promises. He’s worked for the average person. In my opinion, he has been more diverse than any President I have seen and has tried to help people from all walks of life — equally.”
“I was taught strong family values and worked hard to pursue my own dreams — my own American dream. I also believe that Donald Trump’s policies will bring the American Dream to many families across the nation who are still trying to achieve it,” he continued.
“You might not like the way our President says or tweets some things — and trust me, I have told him that! — but I have learned to look past that and focus on what he’s tried to accomplish,” Nicklaus said. “This is not a personality contest; it’s about patriotism, policies and the people they impact. His love for America and its citizens, and putting his country first, has come through loud and clear. How he has said it has not been important to me. What has been important are his actions. Now, you have the opportunity to take action.”
One of Cutler’s former Bears teammates, hall-of-fame linebacker Brian Urlacher, took criticism earlier this year for wading into the social justice activism of pro-athletes in the NBA. As The Daily Wire reported:
Former NFL linebacker Brian Urlacher slammed the NBA after players postponed two days of games as they considered boycotting the rest of the playoffs over the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Urlacher was inducted into the Pro-Football Hall of Fame in 2018 after a 13-year career in the NFL playing for the Chicago Bears. He put out a statement on his Instagram on [Aug. 27] calling out NBA players for faltering “in the face of adversity.”
“[Former NFL quarterback] Brett Favre played the [Monday Night Football] game on the day his dad died, threw 4 [touchdowns] in the first half, and was a legend for playing through the face of adversity,” Urlacher said. “NBA players boycott the playoffs because a dude reaching for a knife, wanted on a felony sexual assault warrant, was shot by police.”
