North Carolina is a crucial swing state that Trump won by over three and a half points against Hillary Clinton in 2016 and by more than one point against Joe Biden in 2020. North Carolina will harbor an open Senate seat in the 2022 midterm elections after incumbent Republican Sen. Richard Burr’s decision to retire.
Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, has been named as a potential candidate for the open Senate seat. A poll from The Hill shows her leading with double-digits over a crowded field of Republicans, including former Gov. Pat McCrory and former Lt. Gov. Dan Forest.

“President Trump won North Carolina in 2016 by promising to put America First, and he won North Carolina in 2020 by keeping that promise,” said North Carolina GOP chair Michael Whatley. “President Trump delivered real results for North Carolina by rebuilding the military, standing strong against China, and unleashing the American Economy.”
The 2020 Republican National Convention would have been held in Charlotte, but it was moved to Washington D.C. due to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions at that time.
